Somoku Hodo

Hakushi Hasegawa

Somoku Hodo is a brilliant collision of jazz, electronic, and pop music. The compositions and performances from this amazing talent from Japan are perplexing and exhilarating. The project also shows a great deal of musical range. Doku gets the blood pumping with its breakneck pace and jungle rhythms, while Somoku and Cue are much more smooth and easy going. Hamidasu Yubi dives into much stranger territory with its odd rhythm and these quirky, stuttering, and pitch shifted tones. Hakushi Hasegawa's voice flows gracefully and provides a great counterpoint to the very dense musical backdrop he creates. At this point, it is very rare that a new music discovery will stop me in my tracks, but this amazing project did. I can't say enough nice things about it.
