It has been a little while since I shined some light on my hometown, so I thought I would tell you about a great EP from a beloved Sudbury band. Statues are a fun and lovable power pop-punk band that were staples in the Sudbury music scene (and somewhat beyond) during the 2000s. My favourite release from them is an extremely short EP called Same Bodies, Same Faces which spans four tracks and eight minutes. Thematically, the EP taps into the general worker malaise, so you know this thing is going to be almost universally accepted. Pinpoint explores the monotony of working life over a supremely catchy set of chord progressions. What I gather from Distance / Duration is the discrepancy in goals between your average worker and business 'operators'. It also touches on the exploitative nature of being a worker; completing tasks with unrealistic parameters to please the higher-ups who enjoy fancy functions and finding ways to cut worker compensation.

Then we have No Time which talks about being all consumed due to the stress and demands of our jobs. "No time to be looking over shoulders, every time I turn around I'm another year older," reminds us that our lives are slipping away and we barely notice. To end things off, we have a cover of GG Allin's Dead or Alive which is honestly better than the original. It has tighter production, stronger performances, and the decision to have one of the Houle brothers (I'm not sure which one) take over for Rob Seaton on vocals was a fitting decision. That about covers it and I've said more here than I have about releases four times its length. Make sure to check out this EP. It is hardly a commitment and you wouldn't regret it anyway.
