We Walk On Our Dead

Big Evil

Big Evil is the hardcore/noise project of one Marcus Iannello, a talented musician I am lucky to run in the same Toronto circles with. Marcus has been sitting on this material for quite some time and I am so incredibly excited that it is finally out. After listening to it over and over the day it was released, it is clear that We Walk On Our Dead is something to be very proud of. There are plenty of awesome, angular riffs and nasty sounds all over the EP's four tracks. There are also some neat production moments as well like the overblown and pulsing outro of Chip Creep. Or when Marcus's voice goes into this feedback loop and leaves you hanging only to come back in with a sharp crack of a snare and some heavy riffing on the track Boston. If I had to really find something to complain about, I'd say that Marcus wears his influences a little too blatantly on his sleeves, resulting in a sound that is not entirely original. But when you're foaming at the mouth for pretty much any new Justin Pearson project (The Locust, Retox), We Walk On Our Dead goes above and beyond to scratch that itch.
